Early access to treatment following an injury has been shown to have a positive effect on recovery outcomes, with rehabilitation ideally starting as soon as practical once an injury or illness appears.
ALDI's Your Injury Support Program, funded by the Mutual Benefits Program, is an innovative early intervention initiative designed to provide employees with access to physiotherapy services for both work and non-work related injuries.
Supporting the wellbeing of employees
ALDI established the program so that at the first sign of illness or injury, employees could get advice on the most appropriate treatment pathways. For physical injuries, employees were able to immediately access up to six sessions of physiotherapy without delay or personal expense.
The objective of the program was to encourage employees to address symptoms early, with the dual aims of improving the health and wellbeing of their workforce, whilst also reducing the severity and frequency of injuries.
Between the launch in Victoria on 1 July 2021 until the end of the project on 12 May 2022, over 2,300 calls had been made to the service. There has also been overwhelmingly positive engagement in the program from store staff, distribution centre staff and regional offices alike. ALDI has noted a reduction in their lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) of 36% as well as a reduced average claims cost by approximately 20% compared to the pre-project baseline.
